The multimedia presentation program does not run, what do I do now?
If the multimedia presentation does not run, the problem may be one of three issues. Check each of these issues before contacting support.
- The CD-ROM disk may be scratched, have fingerprints on it or otherwise damaged. Check the surface of the disk,
and return it to us for a replacement if necessary.
- The CD-ROM drive may not be functioning correctly, try using another disk to verify that the drive is functioning correctly.
- The driver software and presentation engine may not be properly installed or it may have become corrupted. Insert the multimedia CD in the CD-ROM drive, select Start... Run... and type D:setup then click on the OK button. This will reinstall the software. If this does not resolve the situation, you will have to contact support for further instructions.

I just installed a modem into the computer repair trainer and now the mouse does not work, what is wrong?
The computer repair trainer is shipped with all the software and hardware necessary to operate the modular program. If you have installed any hardware that is not part of the computer repair package, troubleshooting, support and subsequent repair is limited to contacting the manufacturer of the hardware. While we cannot stop anyone from installing software or hardware in the computer repair trainer, we encourage you not to do so. This equipment is for use as a trainer, with specific experiments that function with the trainer as configured. Modifying the trainer from original specifications may have an adverse effect on the experiments and subsequently the students progress. |
A student put a password into the system, but does not remember what the password is. The system is locked out and I am unable to use it. What do I do now?
It will be necessary to reset the CMOS memory. To do this, follow the instructions outlined below. Note, you will have to reconfigure the computer to original factory settings upon doing this. If necessary to reset the computer in this fashion, it is advisable to contact support for additional assistance.
Resetting CMOS memory:
- Turn the computer power off
- Remove the 6 screws that is securing the cover to the trainer
- Locate the CMOS dump jumper, usually J1 located near the CMOS ram chip or by the battery.
(If you cannot find J1 you may need to refer to the motherboard documentation that comes with the trainer)
- Remove the Jumper from pins 1 & 2 of J1 and cover pins 2 & 3.
- Turn the computer power on for 30 seconds
- Remove the Jumper from pins 2 & 3 of J1 and cover pins 1 & 2.
- Turn the computer power back on
Reset the CMOS information as specified in the instructors manual or contact support for additional information.
At this point the password has been cleared. If you can not locate J1 but found the battery, you may substitute removing the batter for step 4 and replace the batter in step 6. This will accomplish the same result of clearing the CMOS memory. |

A student was "playing" with the computer, now it will not boot Windows, however, the computer starts and then displays the C:>\ prompt. I reinstalled Windows twice, and this problem still exists, what do I do to correct it.
Your student has changed the contents of a hidden file called MSDOS.SYS. In Windows 9X this file contains text information regarding the startup characteristics of the system. You can check this file by using the Windows text editor, Notepad. To see if this is the problem associated with your computer, select Start... Programs... Accessories... Notepad. Then select, File Open... and enter the file name, exactly as shown, C:\MSDOS.SYS Check the line that reads: BootGUI= This line should read BootGUI=1, if it does not contain this entry, change the file to read BootGUI=1, save the file and reboot the computer. Windows should start as usual. |
