When Installing the software, it will not load from the floppy disk or CD-ROM,
I keep receiving an error that setup can not decompress the necessary files for installation
The setup program stopped mid way through, reported that a DLL or other necessary file
was not present or is out of date.
The registration information already appears in the setup window and I can not change
the information that is shown.
The registration code that I received does not work. How do I fix this problem.
I installed the software, but forgot to register it. The program will no longer run.
The software was running correctly on a temporary license, a student changed the system date,
now the software does not run.
My hard drive crashed, and I had to restore the hard drive from a backup, now the software does not run.
The software is installed and registered, but when ever I try to start a new lesson,
a message stating "You can not run more than one instance of this software" is displayed
Setup reports that a DLL is linked to a missing automation file.
I am trying to install the software into a computer using Windows 98, and the install program does not start, however it displays a dialog box stating that core components must be updated, what do I do?
I am using version 3.x of the CAI software, and a student logged in to the system with a code
number different than the one that I wanted the student to use. Now, the system will not take
either code, what do I do?
I tried to install the software, and I am unable to get anything to work.
I have an anti-virus program installed, is this my problem?
What type of Windows protection software do you recommend to use with your software?
I get an Invalid Page Fault message whenever I start a lesson, what is wrong?
I get an error message stating that the attendance database cannot be initialized,
what does this mean? How do I fix it?
What does an E32100 message mean whenever I start a lesson?
Why does the software say that it cannot find the trainer whenever I run a lesson?
Why does the program display "Cannot find menu command file" each time I try to start the software?
I just upgraded to version 3.1 of the CES Computer Aided Instruction system,
the lesson text is not clear, or is out of position.
Answer
When Installing the software, it will not load.
Your hard drive does not have enough space to decompress the files necessary for installation. The setup program requires that 50 megabytes of hard drive space be available, regardless of the software version being installed. This space is only used during the initial installation, and will be freed when the program has been completely installed.

The setup program stopped mid way through
This error can occur if the computer that you are installing the software to has an older (Original) version of Windows 95 commonly referred to as Windows 95 (A) installed. This error can be easily fixed by simply acknowledging the error, closing the setup program and rebooting the computer. Once the computer restarts, simply run the setup program again. The software will resume the installation where it left off and will complete the installation without any further errors being reported.

The registration information already appears in the setup window...
Once the software is installed on a machine, the registration information that appears will remain, regardless of how many times you re-install the software. This information can not be changed by the end user. Attempting to do so will render the program unusable.

The registration code that I received does not work...
The registration code that is returned to you is calculated from the information that you have provided on the registration form.
If the registration code does not work, you will have to call CES Industries, Inc. and ask for Technical Support.
You may also contact technical support at   tech_support@cesindustries.com  and provide a detailed description of your problem.

I installed the software, but forgot to register it.
You must call CES Industries, Inc. to obtain a registration reset code. You will have to have your serial number from the original disks available for technical support to generate a reset code. You may email this information to tech_support@cesindustries.com as well.

The software was running correctly on a temporary license, a student changed the system date, now the software does not run. Any attempt to defeat the registration code will result in the software locking up. There is no way that you can correct this condition without calling technical support. You will need your original disks with the serial number to receive the reset request code and instructions on how to reset the software. You can avoid this hassle by registering your software when you install it.

If you have downloaded or received an evaluation copy of the software and you experience this problem, it will be necessary to call technical support and provide them with your name, your school, the date you received the software, and your school telephone number. Upon verification that the software is an evaluation or demonstration program, you will be given a reset number. Your evaluation license will be restored. You will be able to obtain only one reset number.

My hard drive crashed, and I had to restore the hard drive from a backup, now the software does not run.
Each copy is keyed directly to the contents of the hard drive when originally installed. It is not possible to restore the software from a backup device. You will have to reinstall the software, and then call for a new registration code before you can use the software again.

The software is installed and registered, but when ever I try to start a new lesson, a message stating "You can not run more than one instance of this software" is displayed.
This error can be generated by a student turning the computer off before closing out of a lesson. If you receive this message, simply reboot the computer, the system will resynchronize the management files and history files whenever the computer is restarted.

Setup reports that a DLL is linked to a missing automation file, or reports that a device that is installed in your system is not functioning or is not installed...
This problem can also be traced directly to a version conflict between Windows 95 (A) and the current Windows 95 (B). The file, located in the Windows\System directory called OLEAUT32.DLL was either in use during installation, marked as read only, or otherwise not updated. You will have to manually copy the file called OLEAUT32.1 to OLEAUT32.DLL then restart your computer, and run setup again.
This error requires substantial understanding of Windows, directory structure and the ability to use the MS-DOS command prompt. If you are not comfortable with changing system files, contact technical support.
Changing a system file or files incorrectly WILL result in the computer not restarting, and possibly you will have to reload Windows. Do not attempt this unless you are sure of what you are about to DO!

I am trying to install the software into a computer using Windows 98, and the install program does not start, however it displays a dialog box stating that core components must be updated, what do I do?
There are certain files that must be upgraded and updated to specific versions in order for the software to function properly. This is normally an automatic procedure that only requires the user to install the CD, follow the screen instructions, and when the computer reboots, to insert the CD a second time to continue with the installation. The installation process requires TWO reboots of the computer, the first copies all the necessary core library upgrades and the second installs the program. If you are having difficulty in installing the software, simply allow the install program to modify the files that must be upgraded.

I am using version 3.x of the CAI software, and a student logged in to the system with a code number different than the one that I wanted the student to use. Now, the system will not take either code,
what do I do?

The system builds the student class list automatically, without the instructor having to build a separate class list for each class. Once a student logs in the first time, the code number that the student enters becomes the pass code for the system. To remove a bad entry, simply click on the administration button from the log in screen and delete the bad code number. If you do no wish to do this, you can use the classroom manager, and select class list from the menu, and change the settings directly from this screen.

I tried to install the software, and I am unable to get anything to work. I have an anti-virus program installed,
is this my problem?

The anti-virus program is causing your problem. You MUST disable the anti-virus software during the installation of our software. As with all anti-virus programs, any activity that appears suspicious or attempts to write to the system registry will trigger the blocking action of the anti-virus program. If our program is unable to write the necessary information to the system registry, the program will fail to operate correctly.

What type of Windows protection software do you recommend to use with your software?
Windows lock down programs have a vast difference in the amount of security that they provide to the user. As with any program, it is impossible for us to evaluate each and every version that exists, and as such, it is not fair to make any recommendations, eith-er for or against any software that is designed to prevent users from accessing various functions within the operating system. We have tested some of the lock down solutions that exist, and can say only that the software may or may not function as you desire.

I get an Invalid Page Fault message whenever I start a lesson, what is wrong?
This is a problem directly with a version conflict of DLL's. You may have to re-install Windows or the CAI Software. A problem like this is best diagnosed by contacting technical support directly.

I get an error message stating that the attendance database cannot be initialized, what does this mean?
How do I fix it?

If this is the first time that you are using the software, this message is normal as there is no attendance information in the database. Once a student has logged in, completed a lesson and logged out, the database will be current and the warning message will disappear. If this is not the first time you are using this software, and receive this message, the attendance database may be corrupt. You will have to reinitialize the database by first deleting the attend.dbf file and then letting a student sign in.

What does an E32100 message mean whenever I start a lesson?
An E32100 message indicates that a graphic image is either not available or has been corrupted. The best way to correct this problem is to reinstall the software. If reinstalling the software does not eliminate this error, check to see if any updates are posted on our web site, otherwise, contact support.

Why does the software say that it cannot find the trainer whenever I run a lesson?
This message is only displayed when communications cannot be established between the 650 series trainers and the computer. Depending upon the installed interface, bus card or serial, the most likely reason for this error is a disconnected interface cable. Check to see if the students did not unplug the interface cable (ribbon for bus card, or RJ11 phone cable for serial) from the back of the trainer or computer. If this does not solve the problem, check to see if the correct interface is chosen from the utilities menu of the CES Computer Aided Instruction software.

Why does the program display "Cannot find menu command file" each time I try to start the software.
This message indicates that the program is unable to initialize the presentation engine, usually due to missing file called "menu32.ini" This file is located in the CAI directory, and can be located by performing a Start... Find Files or Folders... MENU32.INI. If Windows successfully locates this file, and it is located in the CAI Directory, check to see if the file contains any information by viewing the file in notepad. If your system is connected to a network, and the server is providing the lesson material to the individual client stations, the most likely cause for this error is that the student workstation is no longer mapping the correct drive to the network.
If this is the case, follow the steps outlined below to correct this issue. These steps reflect Windows NT as the server and Windows 9X as the client.
  • Double click on Network Neighborhood.
  • Locate the classroom fileserver from the list of computers found,
if the system was installed by CES, the fileserver name will be FILESERVER_1
  • Double click on the fileserver present
  • Locate the directory called CAI - If this directory is not present or you are unable
to locate the fileserver, the problem that you are experiencing is network related,
and you should refer this trouble to your computer coordinator.
  • Using the RIGHT mouse button, click on the CAI folder.
  • Select the option "Map Network Drive"
  • Select the drive letter to associate with the CAI program. If your workstation
contains a CD-ROM select letter "E" if it does not contain a CD-ROM select letter "D".
  • Set the check box 'Reconnect
  • Select the "OK" button

I just upgraded to version 3.1 of the CES Computer Aided Instruction system, the lesson text is not clear,
or is out of position.

During the installation of the software, a number of new fonts are added to your Windows Fonts directory. If the fonts that were added did not properly register, you will have to register them manually. To do this, simply double click on the fonts folder, located in the control panel, then press the F5 key to refresh the folder. Close the folder, then reboot the computer, the problem will be solved.
